Loving on the Neighborhood
I found out from my roomie that every Wed night, there's a group of people that gather together at the end of our cul-de-sac and starts prayer walking throughout the neighboring streets.
Apparently, last year there was a great transformation here, since this used to be one of the shadier parts of town, but through the prayer walks, the neighborhood and surrounding area has been transformed and at least 50% of crime has ceased in the area.
Tonight my OT class got cancelled because of an Open Heavens conference coming into town, so I was able to join in tonight. About 25 people showed up, but I guess they usually have a larger group that gathers.
Tonight's theme was declaring love and worshiping God by drawing chalk declarations and chalk art on the streets and sidewalks. Scattered throughout the street were love messages to the neighborhood, praise messages, declaring God's goodness, pictures of hearts and smiley faces.
As we ended out time together in quiet praise, one of the leaders declared that even if people wash away the chalk or if the rains come, just know that the words may have been written in chalk, but those words are seeped deep into these streets. Amen.
