Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)

I first heard this song while visiting Clarity in Santa Monica. The worship band consisted of a female vocal lead, a keyboard, a guitar and a cajon (a sort of wooden box used as percussion.) I fell in love with the song immediately. It really reached down into my spirit and reverberated this amazing longing and truth that cries out to God.

This past Sunday, a friend and I visited Expression58 where its service was surrendered to the Holy Spirit's leading. Their plans were laid aside for worship and leading to what God was doing.

Unbeknown st to my friend and I, this community had experienced a recent loss in their beautiful family and were sorting through the emotions and circumstances. A woman had spoken in worship and briefly revealed the recent passing, but brought about a powerful word to bring about strength to the community. She shared the lyrics to the bridge of this song and also about the beauty of what God was doing in the midst of the waves and the storms of life (such as the one this community was experiencing.) In the midst of what seems like a dark and stormy situation, there are places where the miraculous can happen, where Jesus beckons us forward...where even a man (like Peter) can recognize Jesus, call out to his savior and say, “'Lord, if it’s you...tell me to come to you on the water.” (Matthew 14) Where Peter did walk on water for those few moments in the midst of the storm. It was only when they got back into the boat that the winds stopped.

This song, Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) by Hillsong United, captures that longing for something greater than what we can accomplish on our own, but with the faith that is in hand with a beautiful Savior,  a lover of our souls kind of intimate relationship with a powerful God.

Enjoy.

You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now

So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
[x6]

I will call upon Your Name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine

...Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
